Integrity Week 24, 2013

It has been a while you should have accounted for the money you have been holding. Your report or lack of it has been holding up our final report.
“Haba brother why are you so insistent? Don’t you know And they did not ask an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to pay out to the workmen, for they dealt honestly. 2Ki 12:15(ESV)?”
Look my friend you must produce that report. How else shall we know if you have dealt honestly or not? Give your report to qualify; I’m sure those men had been proven before then. Besides we are dealing with a mixed multitude. Let all your business be well ordered in the eyes of all men Rom 12:17(BBE).
I find this accounting matter very difficult. Getting this balance of income and expenditure is just not my scene. Isn’t it enough that we show them the items in the budget were met? Anyone can go to the market to verify the prices are correct.”
What are you suggesting? I am sure you haven’t touched the money.
“My conscience is clear on that matter. God knows I have not eaten anyone’s money. If anything my money may even be trapped there.”
A clear conscience is not proof of blamelessness. For my conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who examines me 1Cor 4:4(ISV). Wait, how could your money be there? You were just to keep the books.
“Well occasionally I ran out of money and having an urgent need dipped my hand in to save the situation; but I always pay it back.”
So how come you are not exactly keen on rendering the accounts?
“The needs have been getting frequent and I was no longer very sure of the figures so I put some extra money in…”
Look - money matters are very sensitive. We are trying to avoid any criticism of the way we are administering this great undertaking.  We intend to do what is right, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of people 2Co 8:20, 21 (ESV).  You acted on your own without the knowledge of those who trusted you, and did not involve relevant authorized people to keep you accountable. Can you see how addiction to inappropriate access has developed in you? You should have known better and been more disciplined.  Is this not how Judas fell? Dead flies will make a bottle of perfume stink, and then it is spoiled. A little foolishness outweighs wisdom and honor Eccl 10:1(GW).
“I protest, how can you compare this with Judas? I said I return the money. It’s just that the fine details are a bit blurred now and I don’t want it to look like what it is not.” Judas also returned his (Matt27:3). It is a trap to escape from. Bring the matter up clearly and cleanly before the next meeting. Not a dime should be missing from the amount expected in your hands. Be sure not to do this type of thing anymore.
