Scientists have predicted the sun will burn up the earth in future. By
their calculations the earth will become hotter and hotter, and as the sun ages
the heat will destroy the earth. The lifestyle of man on earth is also a great
threat to its continued existence. Both these scientific facts make it clear we
cannot continue here forever. We also know there is a search for inhabitable
planets, for a new earth. Recently new planets about the size of earth 40 light
years away have been discovered. We know from science man cannot stay on this
planet forever, and the future of the human race lies in a new home.
But the Bible has said this so many centuries ago. Centuries before
science accepted the earth is global and the earth moves round the sun, or that
the universe is expanding the scriptures had made all this clear. It is he who
sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to
dwell in Is 40:22. Hear what is prophesied about
the fate of the earth in the Bible: But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the
night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the
elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are
therein shall be burned up
2Pt 3:10. It also tells us we need a new earth where attitudes and behaviours
are different. But according to his
promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness
dwells 2Pt 3:13.
What else does
the Bible say about the end of the world? The Bible records the earth was once
deluged by a worldwide flood, and by the
same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being
kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly2Pt 3:7. Since the
Bible has so truly and accurately predicted these we must take its message
seriously.
In the new
earth that will really come only righteousness dwells in it. And though we die
all of us will be gathered for judgement before the just creator of the
universe. And just as it is appointed
for man to die once, and after that comes judgment Heb 9:27. On that day no one will be excused. Then I saw a great white throne and him who
was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was
found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the
throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book
of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according
to what they had done Rev
20:11-12.
The only
righteousness any one can have is that given as a gift. A gift obtained by
Jesus Christ by taking the punishment due each of us for our wrong doings and
wickedness. For if, through one man,
death ruled because of that man's offense, how much more will those who receive
such overflowing grace and the gift of righteousness rule in life because of
one man, Jesus the Messiah! Rom 5:17. Come
to Jesus Christ today, turn from evil, and ask Him for this priceless gift of
righteousness He died and rose again to provide for you.
